Founded in 1990 by Dan Puente, D.P. Electric has grown into a multi-million dollar, full-service electrical contracting firm. Built on the principal “Dependable People, Dependable Performance,” the company has established a solid reputation as a trusted partner to the top general contractors and developers in the valley.
D.P. became a Certified Minority Contractor with the City of Phoenix in 1993. Our first awarded project under the Minority Contractor certification was with the FAA at Phoenix Sky Harbor’s TRACON site. At the time, this site controlled all air traffic for the Southwest region. Our mission was to place the facility on temporary power with adequate backup power, remove all existing gear and panels, install all new gear and feeders, commission the site and turn it back over to the FAA all in under 180 days.
With the success of this project under our belt, we were awarded sizable contracts in Fort Huachuca, Ariz., the new Sky Harbor Rental Car Center and the first phase of the Phoenix Civic Center. We were the chosen MBE contractor, filling the MBE goals of the project. Upon completion of these projects, D.P. graduated from the City of Phoenix’s Minority Program.
After experiencing such wins, Dan Puente wanted to give back. D.P. sought out a partner that understood what it meant to assist other minority business enterprises and found the Grand Canyon Minority Supplier Development Council, now the Pacific Southwest Minority Supplier Development Council and the Associated Minority Contractors of America to assist in this endeavor.
Through our involvement in MBE programs, D.P. is no longer considered a small business. Our MBE experience continues to assist us in our success on large projects, where we often hire and mentor other small MBE companies. Our most recent success is our involvement in the South Concourse project at SHIA, where we have committed to 24+% minority participation. D.P. was once an SBE and understands the value of professional partnerships and the empowerment of new companies.
The company initiated with one employee, one truck and a utility room in a garage that served as office space. We have since grown into a diverse team with over 300 employees. D.P. Electric still a family owned enterprise, is led by Dan Puente and has more recently welcomed aboard, Danielle Puente. Danielle joined the team as our Controller back in 2015. Her prior work as a CPA at KPMG helped prepare her for the demands and challenges she faces in constructing the future of this ever-expanding company.
Dan and the entirety of the D.P. Electric team are very proud to be considered one of the most respected electrical contractors in Arizona and intend to continue their support of all MBE suppliers and contractors for years to come.
